Happy Wednesday!
Today we had a very busy, unusual day because we had a lot to do in order to prepare for the Spring Concert both tonight and tomorrow. We started our morning with quiet reading before we did some science. We started a new unit on Bees yesterday and today we learned about the life cycle.
Ms. Zimmermann's class went to rehearsal during recess, but we made up that lost time right after. When we all came back in before lunch, Mr. Fisher's class went to library, while Ms. Zimmermann's class read a story and talked about making connections to the world, ourself, and other texts.
After lunch, we did some more quiet reading before going to the gym to watch the tonight's performers practice one last time. We got to hear lots of different songs and instruments. When that finished, we went outside to play tag and kickball to make up for our lost Phys. Ed time today.

Happy Long Weekend!
Happy Thursday!
We did our spelling test as soon as we came in this morning as Ms. Zimmermann's class had a very busy day, and it was the only time to do it.
After spelling, Ms. Zimmermann's class went to Music and then Library, while Mr. Fisher's class did some addition practice before a quick movement break. We all got together to have snack and listen to a story.
At 10am, we all made our way to the gym, where the Teachers vs. Students hockey game was taking place. It was a great game, with a tremendous amount of effort put in by both teams. Some amazing goals were scored, and some even better saves. In the end, the teachers won with a score of 14 to 8. Congratulations to every student player who earned their way into the game!
REMINDERS:
There is NO SCHOOL both tomorrow and Monday. Enjoy your long weekend.

Whirlwind Wednesday
Happy Wednesday!
What a busy day we had today. We had a guest teacher in for Mr. Fisher this morning, and her name was Ms. Hunter. Quiet reading was the first thing on the agenda for today and then we worked on drawing and writing what worm homes look like. When we came back from Phys. Ed, we continued with our worm work before reading some of our novel Silverwing before recess.
After recess, Ms. Zimmermann's class listened to a story and did some catch up work while Mr. Fisher's class went to music and then library.
We continued with quiet reading after lunch before learning more about worms. Today was our last day studying worms, and we talked about why worms are important and what they eat. Some super cool facts were that worms can eat 10 tons of food in a year, and they can survive without food for up to 2 months.
We also had Buddies today where we played a math battle outside. We had just enough time to clean up our classrooms before we got ready to go home.
REMINDERS:
TOMORROW is our Spelling Test. Ms. Zimmermann's class also has library tomorrow. Please remember your books.
TOMORROW is the Teachers vs. Students Hockey Game. Those who are PARTICIPATING may wear a sports jersey of their choice.
TOMORROW is Early Dismissal (11am), and there is NO SCHOOL on Friday and Monday!
Fun Lunch forms are due back by Wednesday, June 1.

We ended the day with a movement break and some more of our novel Silverwing.

Wormtastic!
Good afternoon,
Today we started with a quiet read. Following that, we worked on our newspaper writing on bats. We are moving on to a new animal so it's important that we get this finished. The students are doing some excellent descriptive writing on the things they learned.
Today in gym, we did some activities outside. We could play frisbee, football, skip, or play soccer.
After gym, we continued to read from our book Silverwing. We learned about the echo chamber. The bats in the book tell their stories in the echo chamber and they stay there forever. Shade was taken to visit the echo chamber with one of the elders.
After recess, room 7 had music while room 8 did some ketchup.
Right before lunch we got our new word wall words. We wrote them down 3 times and used them in a sentences.
After lunch, we did some reading.
Once we were finished reading, we started on a new animal in science. Over the next few days we will be talking about worms. Today we learned the parts of a worm and labelled a diagram. We also got to see a worm and touch it if we wanted. Once we had looked at the worm, we wrote in our booklet. We described what a worm, "look like," "feels like," and "moves like."
Reminders, this is a short week. There is early dismissal on Thursday and no school on Friday.
Have a great evening!

More Subtraction.
Good afternoon!
We had a guest teacher in for Mr. Fisher today and her name was Ms. Hicks! We started our morning with some quiet reading, before working on 3 task cards with a partner. When we came back from gym, we continued working on our task cards before reading more of our novel, Silverwing.
After recess, Ms. Zimmermann's class did some yoga while Room 7 went to music. When we all gathered before lunch, we did some catch up!
We did some more quiet reading after lunch, before moving into more subtraction. We read a book called Subtraction Action and solved the questions as we read through the book. Some questions were tricky, like the fill in the blank ones... but Ms. Binks did some magic and showed us how to turn that into an addition question.
For example:
_____ - 6 = 9 CAN BE TURNED INTO... 9 + 6 = ______
We did a quick clean up before we got ready to go home!
REMINDERS:
Spring Carnival is TONIGHT from 6 to 8.
Review spelling test TOMORROW... that's 50 words!
Scholastic Orders are due back TOMORROW!

Subtraction!
Good afternoon,
This morning we started with a quiet read, then we did a partner read.
After that, we had gym. Today we started Badminton.
After gym, we worked on ketchup. We are really focusing on finishing some outstanding work as we get closer to the end of the year.
Following recess, room 8 had music while room 7 continued to work on ketchup.
When room 8 came back from music, room 7 went to the library.
After lunch, we read quietly. Room 8 went to library this afternoon because the learning commons will not be available tomorrow.
When room 8 came back from library, we started on subtraction. We answered the question, "what is subtraction?" We came up with a pretty good list.
We will be continuing to practice addition and subtraction until the end of the year.
Reminder, book orders are due Friday!
